Hello! It's been a while since I've phblogged. I just made that word up. It'll catch on.
We visited with our BFFs, the Beerthurs, last night, and art happened. Here are some macro shots of my masterpieces.
The Mixtapes are a 90's cover band from Springfield, Missouri. I have a hard time finding words to describe just how good they are. They alternate lead singers for each song, depending on who is best for the part. They nail it EVERY SINGLE TIME.
A few of the songs that blew me away:
Summer's version of Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know"
Katie's version of The Cranberries' "Zombie"
Johnny's version of Live's "Lightning Crashes"
Phillip's version of Third Eye Blind's "Losing a Whole Year"
If you are in the area, you really should catch a show because you will NOT regret it!
You can check them out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mixtapesband.
I shot a LOT more photos, and you can see the rest of them here.
If you're from the Joplin area, I'm sure you know Carter. He put on an unsurprisingly fantastic show at JB's on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Also performing were Jake Messer of None the Wiser and Ryan Reid from Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Jake opened the show with some of his original tunes, which included his take on the classic, "You Are My Sunshine."
Carter and Ryan announced that they would be "song-swapping," and they took turns playing tunes for the rest of the night. They played some of their originals and covers. Ryan did an amazing version of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror."
It was a fantastic night, and a hometown Carter Hulsey show is guaranteed to be awesome.

Without further ado...

Me Like Bees is an awesome band out of Joplin, Missouri. They are currently on Van's Warped Tour right now, and I'm jazzed to have had the chance to catch them before they headed out this weekend.
Another awesome band, The Travel Guides, from Wichita, Kansas, opened for them. Photos of them will follow soon.
For now, here are some shots of Me Like Bees's set this past Friday, July 18.

Pittsburg ArtWalk has a car show during each of the events, and the winner of the April show won a free photo session with me. We had a blast shooting photos of these gorgeous pieces of machinery!
Thanks to the ArtWalk for asking me to donate the prize. I'm also going to be donating another session in August, so if you were wondering if you should enter the car show, that would be the time to do it!
